the what:
Bridge City Basketball Academy came to life as an alternative to the other directions youth/high school basketball have gone. While we respect all approaches and folks who choose to work with young athletes, our focus is on “the work.” This might not be for everyone, but our daily plan of attack as an academy is the improvement of each athlete that we work with.
Having played all over the city in his youth, Coach Glasgow got very familiar with the bridges over the Willamette that carry us from the east to the west side of the city and vice versa. Our intent is to serve athletes on both sides of the river, running our center of operations out of THE COURTS in Beaverton.

Sam Glasgow
Head Coach/Director of OperationsCoach Glasgow, or Coach G, was born in Bend, OR and raised in SE Portland. A Cleveland graduate of the class of 2007, he was a three year varsity letterman in basketball, 2-time all-PIL performer, Most Improved Player as a sophomore, and twice a varsity captain. Upon graduation he received a scholarship to play basketball at Division II Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, WA. After finishing up his schooling at Portland State University he was introduced to Oregon coaching legend and then-Cleveland High School head coach Don Emry. Emry brought Coach Glasgow onto his coaching staff and he will be forever grateful to Emry for giving him that opportunity. After four seasons in a variety of roles at Cleveland, he hopped on the coaching staff at Beaverton High School. This gave Coach Glasgow a glimpse of Oregon high school hoops outside of the PIL and he believes this experience allowed him to become a more well-rounded coach. He spent four seasons at Beaverton as well. After another season serving as a varsity assistant at Benson High School, he was hired as varsity head coach at his alma mater, Cleveland High School. After four rewarding seasons in charge of the program, he stepped down this past spring with the intent of creating more balance in his life and building something sustainable for the Portland Metro basketball community as a whole. From working with players on the 7th grade “C” team to future D1 guys, Coach Glasgow has seen it all.
Coach G currently lives in Southeast Portland with his fiancée and their 4 pets. During the day he can be found teaching Health/PE at Cleveland High School.
Administrative Director/Movement CoachMichaela McNairy
Coach McNairy moved to Oregon at the beginning of 8th grade. She was raised by two former collegiate athletes who maintained a focus on healthy athletic development - mentally, emotionally, and physically - while encouraging their daughters to try as many sports as possible. She gained experience in basketball, track and field, soccer, softball, wrestling, tennis, and volleyball. Her wide-range of athletic endeavors set the foundation for her belief that variety and novelty in training provides athletes with huge health benefits, especially those who are still growing and developing.
At Lakeridge High School, Coach McNairy competed in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. In volleyball, she helped to win the league title and received all-league honors. In track and field, she was a 4 year varsity athlete, 2 year varsity captain, competed at the state track meet 3 out of 4 years, and helped secure the Three Rivers League title in 2009. She competed in track and field in college as a hurdler, relay member, and heptathlete. She earned individual and whole team awards, including earning conference titles in multiple events and for the women’s team overall.
For over a decade Coach McNairy bounced between coaching track and field, volleyball, and basketball. She has been a high school head volleyball coach, track and field individual events coach and strength and conditioning director, youth coordinator/coach for both volleyball and basketball, SAQ consultant and coach for high school and youth basketball, and fall league high school basketball coach. She was the president of a community based basketball non-profit and took on many roles while in this position. She has 10 years of experience teaching high school English Language Arts and currently teaches at Benson Polytechnic High School.
